I found out from a friend on Instagram that there is a David Bowie gallery at the Taschen on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. The gallery are photos taken by Mick Rock – Known as the man who shot the 70’s. When I found out that there was an exhibit like that taking place here in Los Angeles, I knew that I had to go! I am a long time fan of classic rock, photography, and of course I adore David Bowie! I have even done a few David Bowie pieces of artwork. And attending the gallery, I was inspired to do another piece.
I was so very thrilled when I seen photos taken of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Debbie Harry of Blondie! One of the greatest highlights for me was a photo that I stood next to to have my picture taken, it was David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed. You just cannot get any more beyond brilliant than this.
I am including photos that I took at the gallery, however these do not do the actual photos justice. Photos are available to buy, but they are expensive! There also have limited addition number of books: 1972 to be exact. These copies are signed by both Mick Rock and David Bowie! They go for around $700, and at that price it is definitely a buy for the discerning fan or historian.
It was supposed to run only until October 10, but I later found out when I arrived at the museum that they had extended the show until October 30. If you are interested, you can always attend and I highly recommend it! It is a free gallery, and it is open until 7 PM. The staff there are very friendly, they encourage you to take photos and offer refreshments such as water or beer.
Outside the building! How amazing is this? Ignore my moon face~!
Lou Reed and David kissing… Ohh, and of course there is Mr. Mick Jagger, who is often referenced as being my father because we have lips that could swallow the world.
David having dinner on a train car. Such a candid moment.
The photo on the left is one of my favorites in the gallery! The raw feeling is just primal. Ignore my sisters cup on his “cup” | Right photo: He looks so at peace, so dynamic from photo to photo.
Saxaphone! My love of the sax is deeply rooted! I am addicted to sax.
This photo is just beyond words, I’m very inspired by it and may due a piece of this.
Those legs! Those shoes! = Swoon!
David Bowie and Cyrinda Foxe
I was so surprised and happy to see one of my favorites here, the stellar Iggy Pop!
Andy Warhol and Lou Reed on the Left | Right: One of the most iconic album covers and rock photos of all time, Queen
Left: One of my father’s favorites, Debbie Harry of Blondie – Isn’t she stunning? | Syd Barret of Pink Floyd
And the shot that they used on the outside:
